Recap: Digital Learning Day at the Capitol

This month, we came together for our biggest event of the year—Digital Learning Day at the Capitol—and it was an incredible success! Student leaders from WAVA and WACA demonstrated the power of online education by leading an engaging, hands-on activity about the legislative process for ~100 student attendees. Their leadership, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with peers was truly inspiring. To everyone who participated, supported, or helped make this day possible—thank you! Your dedication continues to showcase the strength of our digital learning community.

Legislative Update

On the legislative front, we’ve seen both encouraging and challenging developments. Some recent updates bring great news for online public-school students, reaffirming the value of school choice and virtual learning. Legislation (HB 1079 and SB 5193) to allow remote state testing for online school students is moving through the legislative process. Thank you to all the families who have contacted your legislators to show your support for this legislation.  While there is good news for remote state testing, we are also facing policy hurdles that could impact the future of digital education in Washington. As always, DPSA is committed to advocating for policies that protect and expand access to quality online learning. We will keep you informed and engaged as these discussions unfold.

Student Spotlight

Hi friends! I’m Ayla Vance in 11th grade, and online school has been a great fit for my family for 5 years. The flexible schedule allows us to spend more time with family and participate in extracurricular activities. I can also get the help I need from my teacher 1-on-1 whenever I need it. I love online school!

Spring Break Ideas

The Washington Digital Public Schools Alliance is a coalition of Washington families who have joined together to advocate for digital public schools in our state. DPSA parents have worked hard to educate and inform Washington State policymakers about the importance of digital public schools. Your participation makes a real difference to our leaders in Olympia.
