Checking In During Uncertain Times

I have been thinking about you and hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy. When the first coronavirus case was announced in Washington in January, I had no idea the profound impact it would have on our lives. I recognize and understand that whatever part of the state you call home, you are living in communities impacted by COVID-19.

While Washingtonians are staying home, families are adjusting to a new normal – spending all day together, learning, working and sharing family time. For many students, teachers and parents, the sudden transition to mandatory distance learning has been a challenge. But for digital public school students, their education has continued without disruption. A digital public school has been a great fit for my sons, and I have always been grateful for this education option.

I hope you will reach out to your friends and family who are new to distance learning to offer guidance and support and to share your experience as a digital public school parent. They will appreciate your care and concern. We are in this together, after all.

I also encourage you to visit the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction website. There you will find important updates and information about what’s happening with education in our state. We are also sharing information and fun family resources on our Facebook page. If you have any questions or need help, please email me, info@digitalpublicschools.org.

Finally, this is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our students are lucky to have such wonderful digital public school teachers. They have continued to provide a quality education during this extraordinary time. Please urge your student to take a few minutes this week to thank their teachers for their hard work.

I wish you and your families good health in the months ahead.
